About DC Scholars: 

DC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and opened with grades PS-3. Today, DC Scholars Public Charter School serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. We emphasize academic achievement and firmly believe that we must support students’ emotional, social, and physical growth to improve student learning. With a focus on these areas, we earned Tier 1 status in 2016 as outlined by the DC Public Charter School Board’s Performance Management Framework. Since 2012, DC Scholars PCS has cultivated a like-minded and collaborative team; staff is enthusiastic about constantly setting and reaching a high bar for students.

The Position:

The Facilities Associate for DC Scholars Public Charter School (DCSPCS) is a key member of the school’s Operations Team. The Facilities Associate interfaces regularly with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that our scholars are provided with high-quality systems and day-to-day support. The Facilities Associate will report to the Facility Operations Manager. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Facilities Manager to tackle maintenance and repairs projects in a timely and accurate manner
  • Responsible for ensuring that all school facilities are clean and safe, including classrooms, hallways, stairwells, locker rooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, and athletic fields
  • Ensuring that all school equipment is in good working order by conducting regular maintenance checks and making repairs
  • Assist with arrival and dismissal set-up, daily school activities and special events, including moving furniture between buildings/offices/classrooms
  • Maintaining the school grounds and facilities in good condition by performing minor repairs and tasks, cleaning, assembly of furniture, painting, replacing light bulbs, changing filters in HVAC systems, and replacing burned out light bulbs
  • Follow all school safety policies and procedures at all times and participate in scheduled emergency procedure drills (e.g. evacuation drill)
  • Assist with maintaining school grounds, particularly during inclement weather, to ensure safe access to school building and facilities
  • Execute various facilities projects over the summer such as painting, moving furniture, equipment assembly, grounds keeping, etc., in preparation for the upcoming school year

  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Ability to frequently lift or move objects up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
